A Recap of Project Teach a Teen 2023: A 3-Day Bootcamp for Teenagers from Under-resourced areas in Lagos.

In the heart of summer, from September 4th-6th, 2023, Teens Going for Gold Network hosted the 7th edition of ‘Project Teach-a-Teen,’ an annual initiative that brings teenagers from less privileged backgrounds for a special experience.

Thanks to the support of Dolly Children Foundation, Dreams From the Slum, and Reminisce Schools, who collaborated with TGFG, enabling a total of 48 teenagers to gather at Reminisce Schools for an enriching 3-day boot camp.

DAY ONE – BUILDING CONFIDENCE & PLANNING FOR SUCCESS

The boot camp began with an impactful session on Public Speaking by Temi Badru, an international public speaker. She encouraged teens, sharing tips to conquer shyness and speak confidently in public.
Thereafter, Christianah Soname, founder of Dear Young Professional Network, delved into the nuances of carving a successful career path, inspiring teenagers to set ambitious goals.
Later in the day, Abraham Ologundudu, a brand designer, spoke to teenagers on how to present themselves to the public, and to get access to scholarship opportunities.

At night, the teenagers enjoyed the inspiring movie, ‘The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.’

DAY TWO – BUSINESS & FINANCE MANAGEMENT AND SKILL ACQUISITION

Expert instructors guided the teenagers, instilling a sense of creativity and accomplishment.

DAY THREE – EXHIBITION
The highlight of the third day was the exhibition showcasing the skills the teenagers had learned. It was really engaging, and certificates of participation were awarded at the end.

Throughout the boot camp, meals, snacks, transportation, and T-shirts were freely provided, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for every participant.

Special acknowledgment goes to the the Executive Director, Mrs. Oluwapelumi Obisesan-Aina, for curating this all-expense-paid premium boot camp, along with the lead facilitator, Olawunmi Olaoluwa, and the team, Toluwanimi Obisesan, Tobiloba Olatunji, and Oluwaferanmi Adejunwon.

The youngsters acknowledged that the impact of the boot camp was profound, leaving them more knowledgeable, skilled, confident, and inspired.
