Teens Going for Gold Network Organises a Three-Day Value Session for Volunteers
In the course of our busy lives, it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering can be enormous. Volunteering offers vital help to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, but the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer. The right match can help you to find friends, connect with the community, learn new skills, and even advance your career.
Giving to others can also help protect your mental and physical health. It can reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose. While it’s true that the more you volunteer, the more benefits you’ll experience, volunteering doesn’t have to involve a long-term commitment or take a huge amount of time out of your busy day. Giving in even simple ways can help those in need and improve your health and happiness.
For these and many more reasons, the management of Teens Going for Gold Network thought it wise to organize a three day virtual Volunteers’ Value session to help volunteers in their bid to attain personal goals.
The session featured speakers who have gained a lot of insight and benefits from volunteering, who shared their personal and professional experiences with participants and of course showed evident reasons to maximize the call to volunteer.
Among the resource persons are; Abraham Ologundudu, Executive Director, SocialGood Lagos, whose session was on the topic ‘ Effective Personal Branding. Pelumi Obisesan, Executive Director, Teens Going For Gold Network, who spoke on the topic: ‘Maximizing Volunteering For Career Progression’ and Tochukwu Egesi, Co-founder, Innovation Corner and Editor, Inclusion Times whose topic was ‘ Accessing and Maximizing Global Opportunities.’
All sessions of the three day event were very insightful and all volunteers who participated in the sessions noted how useful the sessions were to them and how they could not wait to begin to apply the lessons they had learnt. According to the volunteers’ feedack, the main lessons learnt were the following: Don’t be idle – get to know many of the people around you. Introduce yourself, learn from the organisations’ leaders and try to develop long term relationships that you can deploy for progression or collaboration in your career. The Volunteers Value Session is a component of the organisation’s volunteer compensation program.
Besides the general speaking sessions, volunteers who wanted to have one-on-one sessions with any of the resource persons indicated interest. At Teens Going for Gold Network, we care about the progress of our volunteers and you would not regret a volunteer experience with us.
